ANL Awards WSC Contract to Verify RadICS Digital System Upgrade in Rivne NPP Unit 3

Rivne Nuclear Power Plant (RNPP) Unit-3 is being upgraded with the new digital control system, RadICS, by Ukrainian company PRC Radiy. Old analog control systems for the Balance of Plant (BOP) and safety systems are being replaced by PRC Radiy with the new RadICS Digital Instrumentation and Control (I&C) Platform. The new platform is based on Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) technology that provides IEC 61508:2010 SIL-3 architecture in individual chassis.

Argonne National Laboratory (ANL) has contracted WSC to extend the capabilities of WSC's Rivne NPP Unit 3 Full Scope Simulator (FSS), developed on the 3KEYMASTER platform and recently updated in arrangement with Energoatom, to be used as an engineering tool to verify that all plant I&C with the actual (translated) control algorithms implemented by RadICS perform as expected under normal and transient conditions.

WSC will work with RNPP and ANL to complete verification of the Rivne Unit 3 VVER-100 RadICS control system upgrade using the 3KEYMASTER Rivne NPP Unit 3 FSS.
